Hope Glows Luminaria Event
BIWC has been invited to participate in an uplifting event hosted by Bainbridge Youth Services. (Please see the letter below from Cezanne Allen, Executive Director of BYS.) The event involves decorating luminaria bags that will be used to decorate downtown Winslow. On February 5th, BIWC will join the rest of Bainbridge Island to enjoy this community expression of hope. The BIWC Board is developing a plan for members to access the materials and perhaps a way to celebrate together. More information is coming soon, so stay tuned!

Back by popular demand, October featured another round of Drive-in Games! Lots of laughter and honking horns were heard, as members were able to participate in The Price is Right and Name that Tune from the comfort of their cars. Some just couldn't resist putting on their dancing shoes. Prizes awarded to our lucky winners included Gift Cards from Local Restaurants.
Recap of October's Zoom Program
If you did not have an opportunity to participate in our October Program, we have posted a link to the pre-recorded presentation by the Ascend Fund. Click on the link below to learn about the challenges facing women who choose to run for office, the strategies for promoting gender parity and the other organizations working in coordination with the Ascend Fund.
Our Program Committee Chair, Karla Sammons, (highroadevents@msn.com) will be contacting the Ascend Fund with follow-up questions and comments from our members, and we invite you to contact Karla if you would like your feedback included.
Fun Times at September Drive-In Games
Kudos to Joanna Lyon for our wonderful Parking Lot Bingo and Trivia! Some members opted to stay in their cars while others brought lawn chairs to sit outside. Congratulations to the Bingo and Trivia winners! We hope to hold one other parking lot activity while the weather permits. It's such fun to actually be able to visit with each other, even if at a distance.
Recap of September's Zoom Program
We were so fortunate to have April Avey Trabuco from Raising Resilience speak to us about the role of Raising Resilience on Bainbridge Island. April also addressed available research/tips about coping with stress and developing our own resilience. If you were not able to join us last Thursday, you are welcome to watch the recording below. (Please note that there's a brief audio pause near the beginning when a video April planned to show us was not able to stream – She then continues her presentation).

Dear Members,
I had so hoped and prayed that by this fall we would be in a position to resume our monthly meetings and enjoy the pleasure of face to face social interactions. Sadly, due to the recent increases in the rate of Covid-19 in our community and state, our General Meetings are at this time cancelled, at least through the first of the year.
Your BIWC Board of Directors met this week to discuss options for restructuring our programs and alternate ways to meet the needs of our members. I am happy to announce that BIWC HAS NOT GONE AWAY!!! Our September newsletter (which won't come out until after the September 1st Board Meeting) will announce the formats that our programs will be taking, (yes, there will be programs in some form), restructuring of dues and alternate ways to provide support to our ongoing charities (Helpline House and YWCA). Additionally, we will announce which activity groups will be continuing as virtual events, and which are able to actually meet in person (golf group) and still respect the social distancing guidelines. I encourage you to communicate with your activity leaders if you have thoughts or opinions on how to best go forward in terms of your specific group.
In the face of living in a pandemic and not being able to see many family members and friends, including my daughters and mother, I nonetheless feel grateful for many blessings, large and small. We live on a beautiful island with a climate that affords us ample opportunities to enjoy nature. We live in a state that while initially was hit hard by this virus, has managed to keep us relatively safe, compared to many other areas of the country. And I am grateful for being part of this organization, this web of women with brains, humor and compassion in spades. If I am feeling low, I know I only need to pick up the phone!
Stay safe, keep in touch and stay tuned for further updates.
Cheers,
Loretta

About Me:
Bainbridge Island Uni Dating Site
My personality is usually very positive and humorous, a total extravert and miss entertaining friends and family for dinner these days. Some of my favorite music is Classical but I would drop everything I'm doing when the Bee Gees have an old video on, or the Beech Boys, oh yaaaaah! With all my 7 grandchildren all over the US we keep in touch often and plan a reunion in NJ next Spring when it's safer to travel.
I would like to meet someone for casual dating and enjoy each other's interest. One of my favorite towns to meet is Poulsbo, so quaint and little shops offer so much. Time seems to be going by a lot quicker, even though we are limited, but I keep in touch with friends and East Coast friends and family. I miss having a man in my life as it just seems so normal, offering the balance that each one brings to each other. One thing I find in a man that is important in that he is well groomed, not sloppy. Perhaps it could be that I was extremely close to my Dad, I was Blessed in having the best parents and my Mom was just like Lucy Ricardo, never a dull moment, miss them all soooo much.
On Bainbridge the Senior Center offers a lot of activities and I keep in touch with a conversation group twice a month which offers great conversation starters. One time they asked, if you could spend sometime with someone famous who would it be, I answered Tom Selleck could put his slippers under my bed for three days' and a lady opposite me said, 'when he leaves your house send him to my place', we do have a lot of honest fun.
Hopefully there will be some one that would like to communicate with and help this awful time of our lives have more meaning. Being honest is important, NO GAMES.
